ICYMI LIVE REVIEW // Glass Caves - Jimmy's, Liverpool
Words by Eve-Marie Connolly
Many may know Glass Caves as the York based band who started to make a living from busking all over the UK. Matt, Connor, Elliott and Eddie are known for their unique fan interactions and the money they have raised from this has helped them to grow bigger and stronger as an unsigned four piece, recently being backed by BBC Introducing, even live streaming their busking on Facebook to thousands of fans.
Upon arriving at Jimmy’s, a fantastic new venue in Liverpool at the top of Bold Street, I was caught by the way the band represented themselves, from curly perms to suits and trainers; I was loving the vibe before they even sang a word. Matt started off the set by saying that he has lived in Liverpool for 5 years, and that he feels a strong connection with the place, despite still being a Yorkshireman.
Whilst introducing new singles such as Common Tongue from their newest EP Trilogy, the band marry electronica with rich, mellow and funky guitar riffs and Matt’s unique lyrical style. All of this together makes for an emotional viewing, I could tell that Matt was feeling the words he sang, and the crowd were hanging on to his every word.
All in all, Glass Caves were something special that night, and they are definitely a band to watch out for in future. Since they are back on tour in November throughout the UK, they should not be missed!
