Injecting some retro glam back into indie-pop, Nasty Cherry come to the fore with their new single What do you like in me. Signed to Charli XCX’s record label Vroom Vroom Recordings the British-American four piece are destined for big things. The sensual super group are made-up of Gabbriette Bechtel (vocals), Georgia Somary (bassist), Chloe Chaidez (guitarist) and Debbie Knox-Hewson (drummer).

Echoing the sounds of The Runaways and The Naked and Famous, What do you like in me is a sensual, evocative and feminine song with an added slice of mystery and darkness. Narrating the feeling of confusion and self-deprecation, singer Gabbriette Bechtel envelops the ears into a state of gothic euphoria.

Nasty Cherry’s use of recurring echoes embraces a sense of whimsy, reaching into the depths of self-doubt about somebody’s potential infatuation. Simply questioning what they like in her, “What do you like in me?, I wanna see what you see, What do you like in me?. The single keeps you hooked, without a big anthemic chorus Nasty Cherry masterfully keeps the attention and drives the song home. Perfectly matched to soaking up summer sun whilst this song radiates in the backdrop, one can’t help but embrace its bewitching nature from this chic girl-quad.

The visual accompaniment to the single cements the girls’ glam-goth vintage aesthetic. Echoing the low budget music videos of the 80s and 90s, Nasty Cherry are surely the kind of girl group that effortlessly emanate cool. With their first single Win, and now their second firmly under their belts, Nasty Cherry seem to be the new type of girl group which is necessary in music right now. Ramping up the pop-indie scene, everybody will want to be in this super cool girl squad who give voice to those inner-thoughts and mind games we play on ourselves. Keep an eye out, Nasty Cherry are on the rise.
