ICYMI TRACK REVIEW // Dylan- Bad Bitches Beat Heartbreak

Words by Chloe Lewis

Bad Bitches Beat Heartbreak is the debut single by teenage alt-pop princess Dylan, who puts her own personal stamp on today’s era of empowering lady tunes.

Whilst very much a feminist anthem in every sense of the phrase, BBBHB differs to other tracks on the same subject as it discusses the negative effects a break up can have on women, something that Dylan herself touched on when discussing the single. “It describes everything about me,” she says, “I’ve had quite a few fucked-over moments with ex-boyfriends. I just had a really bad run, and then I saw my friends having a hard time, too. So I wrote that song to empower girls who’ve been heartbroken. Boys turn girls into bad bitches because these boys have been using them. Girls build up these huge walls and hurt people because they’ve been hurt.”

There’s an element of raw vulnerability to BBBHB that makes it all the morebeautiful. Whether this comes from Dylan’s exquisitely haunting vocals, the mellow beats throughout or the revealing contents of its lyrics, it is easy to feel as if you know the singer intimately after one listen. If you’re after a gorgeous synthy tune that will empower you and break your heart all at once, Bad Bitches Beat Heartbreak is the one!
